Susan Ulrich has been a professional graphic designer and painter for many years. Since 2009, she began showing her paintings in both juried and private shows and has been able to focus fully on her art, claiming it is her “natural tendency.” She studied art and art history as a college student and is particularly influenced by painters such as Richard Diebenkorn, Helen Frankenthaler, and Antoni Tàpies. At present, she works mainly in acrylic on canvas and paper as well as mixed media and collage, often experimenting with unorthodox tools that will create a desired effect. Susan’s interest in graphic design, photography, architecture, and interior design give her work a unique, contemporary sense of style while acknowledging the historical abstract expressionist period of the mid-century. Her work transcends any era and fits with both traditional and modern interiors.

Susan lives in a thriving art community in Ithaca, New York, with her husband and cat, Smudge.
